Hello!, snowboarders of the internet, I’m your host Matt Guff and in this review, I’m going to be talking about the 8 best snowboards for beginners for the 2023 Season.
That’s right you’re a beginner you need a new snowboard or your first snowboard. Probably your first Snowboard. So, this list is for you.
8. Burton Ripcord
My number 8 snowboard is the Burton Ripcord and the standout to me about this board is that it comes in at a low price for your first board.
You definitely don’t want to spend a lot of money because you’re not going to use a lot of the tech that comes with more expensive boards.
So definitely pick up a snowboard at a low price and then after a year – once you’ve passed through beginner and intermediate you can then choose a more expensive board that’s more suited to the type of snowboarding that you really want to do.
The Burton rip cord also has other features that look like a good beginner board like soft flex and rocker. Towards the tips, the women’s equivalent to this board is the Burton stylus.

consistent and predictable feel to it.
It also has all the other beginner characteristics coming in at a low price and also a soft flex the women’s equivalent is the capita space metal fantasy

6. Arbor Draft
The number 6 beginners snowboard on my list is the Arbor Draft.
The arbor draft has a lot of the other beginner snowboard characteristics the one of that stands out to me is the full rocker profile. The rocker is basically the base of the snowboard. Rises away from the snow as you get towards.
The nose and tail rocker is great for new snowboarders because when you go to make your first turns it’s gonna make the board feel catch-free. It’s gonna help you to turn a little bit faster and it’s just gonna overall make the board feel more playful.
So I think this is one of the most important features for a beginners snowboards and that’s why the arbor draft is my number to pick
Specs
- Terrain: Freestyle, All-MountainMore
- Ability Level: Intermediate-Advanced
- Rocker Type: Camber
- Shape: True Twin
- Flex Rating: Medium
- Binding Mount Pattern:2×4
- Core/Laminates: Wood
Product Details
Rocker Type: System Camber – If you want a highly responsive ride, crisp on-edge performance, and more pop for carving and ollies – all with smoother camber performance – then System Camber shapes are for you. Flex: Flex Rating – 5 (1 Soft – 10 Stiff) |
Shape: Grip-Tech – A tri-radial sidecut design that is not “blended.” Natural shaping intersections, that in the past were eliminated, have been transformed into heel and toe contact points that provide a direct, more ergonomic way to grip the snow when additional control is needed. Flip Tips – Increased ramping on the nose and tail of the snowboard creates the perfect platform for catching free nollies and fakie ollies. |
Core: Highland Core – Arbor’s most versatile core, constructed with a 1:2 blend of poplar and paulownia, for super lightweight performance, durability, and return. |
Laminates: Biax Glassing – A biax over biax lay–up that’s designed for park and street-inspired all-mountain riding. Also creates a good platform for learning. |
Sidewalls: 360° Fully Wrapped Sidewalls – Eliminates the need for tip fill, while effectively tying the whole snowboard together. A technology that delivers incredibly tight tolerances for improved board life and durability. |

Additional Features: Bio Resin – Bio-Resin is a replacement for a traditional petroleum-based resin that doesn’t affect performance or usability. The ingredients that go into it are sourced as co-products or waste products of other industrial processes and are manufactured employing green chemistry techniques that reduce the carbon footprint of the material by up to 40% when compared to its petroleum-based equivalent. Wend Natural Wax – All Arbor snowboards hit the shop floor ready to ride with Wend Natural Wax. |
Binding Compatibility: 2×4 Fourteen Pack Inserts |
Topsheet: Bio-Plastic Topsheet – One of the materials Arbor uses in its quest to eliminate harmful petroleum-based plastics from its production cycle. Made from Castor Bean Oil, this eco-top sheet is extremely durable and water-repellent. Hand Dyed Ash Powerplay – Sustainably harvested, the majority coming from borer-kill trees, off-white to light brown, the canvas for Arbor’s hand-dyed designs. |

5. Arbor Formula
Number five.
The Arbor Formula with its full center reverse camber makes it really easy to learn but you do get grip tech underfoot which is going to help you dig in your edges on firmer icier snow.
It’s soft and forgiving where it counts so that you can actually progress with it and probably end up outgrowing it but not right away.
It’s just one of those boards that you hope you don’t really have to worry about and it’s just gonna help you become a better rider granted. I still do believe you should probably learn on camber because well it’s superior.

4. Salomon Pulse
Number four is the Salomon Pulse with its flat-out camber profile which is basically flat then it comes down it’s not as aggressive as traditional camber.
It’s a soft flexing board. It’s basically Salomon’s my first snowboard and you’re gonna be able to learn the nuances of camber without being on the full camber.
So it’s not going to be as hooky as it could be and not going to be the best on ice just due to the side cut but
you’re going to be able to get the hang of how to load and unload camber with it.

3. Nitro Prime
Number three is the Nitro Prime with its flat-out camber profile. So it’s flat with a rocker you get that stability underfoot from the flat but it’s going to have ease of entry in and out of turns from that rocker.
It’s just soft and playful where you need it to be it’s got a good torsional flex so you’ll be able to ankle steer underfoot.,
But you’re not going to have as hooky of a feel as something that has full camber. It’s a great segue to learn the basics of snowboarding without having to jump fully into something.
That’s a little more aggressive you’ll be able to progress with it by the time you outgrow it.

2. Rome Mechanic
If you’re going to be looking at something a little bit more aggressive number two The Rome Mechanic with another flat-to-rocker profile.
This is going to give you that stability that I’ve already talked about but still give you the ease of entry in and out of turns. It also makes it so that it’s not as hooky you don’t have to worry about it catching hooking your edge and just driving your body into the ground.
So it’s a little more forgiving it’s a good progression and as you get better you’ll realize Hey! I’ve hit the Limitations of this board and you’re gonna be ready to outgrow it.

1. K2 Standard
The number one and The best snowboards for beginners for the 2022-2023 Season is the K2 Standard another flat-to-rocker board.
This is basically a downgraded ray gun which is a board that I love because it’s one of those solid intermediate boards that you can get on and everyone can have a good time on it.
The standard is basically you throw your beginner friend on it you don’t have to worry about them dying. As they progress they’re going to be like I’m great and then you’re like here try this and then
they’re like I suck. But realistically it’s a board that they can progress on they’re going to get the fundamentals down and that’s really what it’s about to get those fundamentals down.
Then you upgrade to the next generation aboard something that’s a little stiff or something that’s a little beefier so for all you beginners out there this is what this list is all of these are solid even the honorable mentions.

Consider a board with a rocker or flat camber for better stability and forgiveness while learning.
What is a beginner snowboard?
A beginner snowboard is a type of snowboard designed for individuals new to snowboarding. It typically features a softer flex for easier control, a wider nose for stability, and a twin shape for balanced riding in both directions. These boards help novices learn and progress their skills on the slopes.
How do I know what size snowboard to get for beginners?
For beginners, choose a snowboard size that reaches between your chin and nose when standing upright. A shorter board is more maneuverable, making it easier to control while learning. A board size appropriate to your height and weight ensures a better experience on the slopes.
How do I choose a snowboard setup?

Do you have to be in good shape to snowboard?
While it’s beneficial to have some level of fitness for snowboarding, it’s not an absolute requirement. Beginners can enjoy the sport with basic fitness, as they start on gentle slopes. As skill and confidence grow, improved fitness can enhance performance and reduce the risk of fatigue-related injuries.
Are camber boards good for beginners?
Camber boards are not ideal for beginners due to their increased stability at high speeds, which can make turning more challenging for newcomers. Beginners typically benefit from boards with rocker profiles, as they offer a more forgiving and catch-free ride, making it easier to learn and progress.
